Stranger Things (2016)

Directed and written by The Duffer Brothers

I think everyone has seen an ad or preview for this series in one place of another lately and for once the hype was not all hot air. Netflix has really put out some great shows lately and this is on the top of my list. With a fresh story full of WTF moments this had me glued to my TV from start to finish. We follow a story of a little boy that goes missing, the effects on his family and the whole town and a little girl who escapes a mysterious government facility. Winona Ryder plays a single mom whose son goes missing and feels like even the police aren’t taking her serious. She understandably loses her mind, and when the paranormal things start happening, nobody believes her. The boy’s friends are on a path of their own trying to figure out what happened to their best friend, which is where they cross paths with our telekinetic mystery girl. There was a little bit of everything, paranormal elements, monster movie bits, a Goonies feel and evil government agency thugs. By the end I felt for these people. The special effects were just right, not overdone and done well where they were used. They helped the story along and didn’t feel like they were using the effects to make a garbage script seem better. The story was GREAT. I’m really hoping there will be a season 2, the ending left room for more to come so I’m crossing my fingers.

I give this 5/5 Full Moons
